Does anybody know if postgreSQL database maintenance of any kind is needed to keep the database running at normal speed? I vaguely recall from Oracle databases a decade or two ago there were some database administrator routine maintance tasks to keep those running smoothly. No idea if it really applies or makes sense here to this one, or given that I periodically reinstall everything anyway or maybe there are automated tasks that make that unneeded, or any performance loss would be so minimimal as to be insignificant.
Can somebody provide a big picture overall view of where/how PostgreSQL / DAZ Studio stores database data?
For example, if I uninstall PostgreSQL, then reinstall it, my data is still there. So uninstallation doesn't remove or reset the actual database itself, and I'm assuming rather that just removes the software used to interface with the data. Where are the actual data and the tables kept?
Does the option in DAZ Studio to reset the database just delete rows out of the various tables, while retaining the actual empty tables?
Is there another way to actually remove the database completely (short of a fresh Windows installation) to truly reset it to factory defaults in case something went horribly wrong with it, if resetting the database is not already this option?
If it matters, these questions pertain to DS 4.8.
I tried searching for a previous Q&A but couldn't find anything similar. I'm using DS4.10 and Genesis 8, rendering in Iray.
Using various hair sets I get strange patterns or artefacts on the render when hair is applied. I tried resizing the hair or cap in case it was some kind of poke through, but without a reliable result. Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas? TIA.
The image was captured early in the render, hence the grain.
Hello everybody
I'm totally new here, and i'm quite confused with all "compatible figure" in the store.
I've understood that Genesis was the "engine technology" for people rendering, coming with a male and a female base figure. I guess then that 4, 7,8... stands for the version of that engine. But i sometimes see "Compatible with Genesis AND Victoria". So here are my question : what is Victoria stands for ? is it something included in Genesis (then why saying it's compatible with both if it's included) is it something different (an addon for genesis or standalone product) i have to buy (or is it free) ? Are Victoria 4 (for example) based models upward compatible with Victoria 8 (i guess Victoria 8 require Genesis 8) ?
Gosh, it's so confusing to me....
Thanks for your help.
Hi,
I have a Mac and a Windows 10 computer. I noticed something unusual and was wondering if anyone has any experience with this issue.
I have Daz 4.10 installed in both computers and can render out a scene just fine in both computers. However, I noticed a key difference.
When I render on my Mac, Daz does its work and renders as usual and I can simultaneously use another app or browse the internet, etc.
But when I render on my Windows 10 computer, Daz or the rendering process seems to take over the computer. I can't really use other apps and if I move the mouse cursor, it starts to lag. As soon as the rendering stops, I can resume work as usual.
Anyone else experienced this issue? Listed below are my specs:
Macbook Pro
macOS Sierra Version 10.12.3
2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB RAM
Graphics Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB
Alienware Area-51 R2
Windows 10
3.30 GHz Intel Core i7-5820K
32 GB RAM
GeForce GTX Titan X
I wonder if DAZ people have thought about putting in some sort of Render Queue, like Poser's Queue Manager or Vue's RenderCow?
With all the hi resolution figures and props available it would be a great advantage especially for rendering image files for animations!
Cheers
It would be ideal if Daz3d could export a point cache file that could be read in 3ds Max. ie .xml and/or .mc
please add this feature to the IRAY render window: There are the buttones "Resume", "Save" and "Cancel". After saving your image, the render screen skips. You can stop the renderer and resume it, but not, when you saved your render. I'd like to see the option to go on rendering after you've saved an image, so you can save at different stages of your render results.

What is a good security suite that will play well with Daz studio and smart content/connect. I got a 32 bit computer which is not to powerful so I rather do free as that is what my budget lets me have.
Does anyone know if there will be support for RT Cores in OptiX Prime (low level API) or will be supported only in OptiX as now will be in OptiX 5.2 .
I morph a character but bend alters the look of the morph in ways i dont want it to. Is there a way to get bend not to alter morphs and just bend the joint?
Hi all,
Recently I have lost a signifcant portion of the dForce functionality within Daz Studio. I am still able to load dForce clothing items and simulate them however where there used to be a number of options I now only see Select dFforce Starting Collision Vertices. All of these options are missing:
I have rebooted, resintalled Daz Studio and updated my OpenCL driver with no change. I am running an AMD FX-8370 CPU, Windows 10 64-bit, a GeForce GTX-980 with 411.63 drivers.
Any thoughts on what to try next?
Thanks
I was wondering if there is anywhere I can look to learn the best ways to save files as I work on them. I notice that the tutorial for this is missing from the video tutorials page, so I was hoping someone here could help me out.
I have been using DAZ for several years to create figure reference for my job illustrating comic books. I've just been sort of stumbling through, figuring things out as needed, and I'm sure I'm doing a lot of things "wrong". Every time I create a new character, I have always saved it as a new scene. For each "costume", I save the figure in the clothes as another scene. Then, each time I pose that figure for reference, I save it as yet ANOTHER scene (sometimes save pose presets, if I suspect I will need that pose again). The result is that my hard drive has filled up fast, and I'm sure this isn't the smartest or most efficient way to do things and organize my files.
If anyone can point me to a good tutorial on this sort of thing, or can simply tell me what I should be doing to make my life easier (and hard drive less full), I'd appreciate it. Thank you!
Hey all,
I recently installed the latest version of DAZ Studio and wanted to try out the dForce feature for the first time, but turns out that I can't as I get greeted with this error message when I press the 'Simulate' button:
"Could not find a valid OpenCL device."
My specs are the following:
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
16GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti with the latest drivers (388.00)
Intel Core i7-7700K
I attached a screenshot of what the 'Simulation settings' tab and what it says.
I'm really confused about this and any help will be greatly appreciated!
I have a piece of simple chest armor I built that is in obj format. When I import the item its pivot point is at the bottom of the item. When I run the transfer utility it moves the armor so that the head hole is in the middle of the chest. I have tried modifying the pivot point so that it is in the middle of the chest armor but when I export it out to obj and then import back in the pivot point is changed back to its old location at the bottom of the item. When I move the pivot point (green small axis) to the the center of the armor and then run the transfer utility the result is the same the simple chest plate is moved so that the head hole is in the middle of the body. I have tried using various settings inckluding bodysuit, shirt and none with various advanced settings but the result is always the same the item is moved to the middle of the body, How do I fix this so that the obj can have proper positioning after the transfer utility is done?
Hi, can anyone tell me what settings I need to use to make the shirt on my render like more real please?
At the moment it just looks smooth and plastic on the sleeves, Im disapointed as I thought as a Genesis 8 outfit everything would look realistic.
Many thanks.
there are times i want to buy a model like hair&clothes&people but i can't find the model
a bot that looks at the image like one of galleries images then find that model it will help a customer to buy that model
