Need help with lighing

I came across a free product by Squarepeg over at Renderosity and, after installing it, tried to use it. Big issues and probably cause I don't know what I'm doing.

It's an iray light rig by squarepeg, has three files, invisible mesh light and visible mesh ligh and rig. When I tried to use the mesh lights nothing happened and when I tried the rig everything in my scene disappeared and I could not undo it. The second time I tried it, I selected a figure to use the light on and again, the mesh lights did nothing and the rig, when clicked, a message asking if I wanted to save my scene came up, meaning it would have replaced my scene again, just this time it actually asked first.

I don't get it, all those who posted their thanks and some saying it works great, no one mentions anything wrong...so why won't this work?

add custom action option to toolbar

I had to change my layout as I can only use one monitor at the moment

I modified City Limits as best as I could but the custom action is missing from my toolbar and going into customise I cannot seeem to add it, my scripts are all there expanding on the left side but I cannot seem to be able to drag it into the list of toolbars on the right

Importing to DAZ Studio?

After trying a lot of combinations, software and formats i can't find any way to import objects to Daz in a practical way. You can export from Max, Blender... in FBX, Collada but sometimes the model has the wrong texture mapping or sometimes the model "explodes" in daz and sometines, the few, looks good... the only way to import, without wastong a lot of time,  seems to OBJ but, unfortunately, and incomprehensible, this format can't be exported in a model with separared objects.

Is someone found a real way to do that? A combination of software, format and parameters to real import objects in DAZ? I mean, sistematically import objects or is a utopia?

Can't send to Hexagon without one program crashing

Hello,

Quick question/concern.

I'm working on learning a workflow between DS and Hexagon, and have hit a bit of a wall.

I'm unable to send anything to Hexagon. Either DS freezes/crashes immediately after opening Hexagon, or Hexagon either freezes, or crashes to desktop with no message.

I've tried using the least demanding object I can think of and it makes no difference. Every time, either DS or Hexagon freezes and/or crashes.

Ironically, I can send the same model to Bryce without issue. It loads right up.

I'm trying to get a character into Hexagon so I have a scale reference to work with. I guess I could export the character from DS and import it to Hexagon, but then what's the point of having a bridge connecting them?

Any fix or ideas on how to fix it?

I got a new monitor which I thought would be really amazing, until I realized the obscenely high resolution results in the tiniest text I have personally ever seen and it still be legible. However, it's gonna cause me some strain because i'm getting old and it ain't THAT legible ;)

 

Is there any kind of hack or mod or plugin or *any* way possible to bump the UI font size up?

Items "missing" from Install tab?

Hello,
I'm sure this has happened to others, but I couldn't seem to find an answer/solution to it. Probably not using good search terms. 

Anyway, I'm trying to install Victoria 4.2 content, but its entries in my Install tab show a "caution" symbol (triangle with !) and I can't install them. Tried updating Meta Data, but that didn't help. Everything else has been downloading and installing fine. I'll attach a screenshot of what I'm seeing.

How do I restore those so I can install them?

I get good results when I use HDRI backgrounds purchased from Daz.  But I go scouting aroung\d the web, and find many sites with HDRI scenes for sale or for free.  Some of those work just fine.  Others seem to have the scale completely off, and my character appears to be very small compared to the rest of the scene, and floating far above the floor.  Is there some adjustment I'm missing?


Long Load Times - Fixing Warnings

I've been fixing all the warnings when characters are added to a sceen and am finally down to my last 3 warnings but have not idea how to resolve them.

As you can see these 3 issues are taking 5 min to resolve when loadign a G8F character.

The warnings do not appear to be obviously linked to an asset as per usual debug log standards.

If anyone has any information regarding either of these any help would be much appreciated.

Apply the smoothing modifier on a limited area

Is there a way to limit the smoothing modifier to a part of an object surface?

 

For example, if we use it to calculate collision of our figure with an object (let's say a body with a piece of furniture), it would be useful to mask the unaffected areas of the body, that get deformed if the number of iterations is high.

 

I believe the only way to do that would be to extract the affected geometry of the body, setting it as a graft, and then calculating collisions only with the graft... Tricky.

It would be great if we could use a weight map with the smoothing modifier instead!

is there a Iray redraw delay between preview and navigating scene?

when working in Iray preview in the viewport on complex scenes navigating the x,y,z axis on figures, etc is very slow. switching back to texture or wireframe is not that fast either. Is there a way I can tell DS not to start calculating the Iray preveiw right away; like after resting the pointer for 5 seconds so I can navigate with a little more fluidity? 

My Vue Scene HDRIs look Horrible in DAZ...

This is a question that involves both DAZ and Vue... but probably better geared toward those who know how to make good HDRIs with Vue.

I've encountered many HDRIs in the past made in Vue and they look fine to use as backgrounds for DAZ's Iray render. I used Vue (2015) this morning to export a sky only, as an HDR, and imported it to DAZ. It looked very nice, not too bright, high quality. Like other HDRs I've seen. I made sure to mark on the export to "preserve full sky lighting range" ...

However, if I render the same file, the entire scene together (it is a sky with mountains and ocean) and chose HDR, I do not get nearly the same results, and I even rendered a 7200 x 3600 image. There is no option, that I can see or find, to preserve the full sky lighting range. Trying to use THAT image in DAZ doesn't work nice at all, everything is low quality looking and way too bright in the sky, but I need the mountains and ocean in the image, too. Can someone please tell me how to save my whole render as a nice, high quality, preserved-lighting HDR? I can't figure it out at all and it would be such a life saver. I got Vue so I could build full scene backgrounds to import into DAZ and use them there... and the results so far are not good. I'm just hoping I'm missing something!

Reordering Tabs

I used to be able to reorder my TAB on the toolbars with Crl Drag but they seem to be not working now I'm in 4.11

Is it different now ?

Any tricks for lighting a character in a tightly enclosed space?

Here's the problem I keep failing to overcome: I have a character based on Gen8 male sitting inside an enclosed vehicle (Calypso MSBN, to be exact), and it is in the underwater environment of Lagoon Living. I need the charachter to be waving out a side window of Calypso at someone inside the Lagoon Living underwater lounge.

So far, I am having the devil of a time trying to light his face and waving hand as though he were lit by interior lights of the Calypso. If I put any kind of light (point, mesh, Ghost Light, whatever) close enough to him to have the light source inside the vehicle, at the side closest to his face, it blows his face out hideously. I have tried various intensity settings, but I can't seem to overcome the "blow-out" phenomenon.

The inherent "lighting" of the underwater environment is so dim that he is little more than a silhouette without some way to light up his face and hands from that side. Lighting up that whole side of the vehicle looks pretty silly, because there is no sensible source for any such light underwater. I want him to look as though there are some interior small lights in the vehicle lighting him warmly against the cold blues of the underwater environment, for medium shots and a close-up. But to light him well, they have to be on the inside of the side of the Calypso.

I'm hoping that some of you who are far more experienced than I am can point me to some tricks, or some lighting products, that might make this possible. Thanks.

IS it possible to sculpt over Daz models in Zbrush and still use Daz skins in Maya like arnold,vray?

I love daz skins but also want to focus on the  realistic side like making skin folds, different body weights, bends etc. I am not an expert in sculpting yet but would like to make attempts. IS it still possible to use the skins that come with the model after having made all the desired changes to the body in say Zbrush or blender? I dont want the skin to go to waste. I would like to make the final renders on maybe say vray or arnold by enhancing the Daz skin. 


Daz3D stops using GPU

I'm having this problem for few months now, DAZ simpley stops using GPU and changes to CPU.

I tried many sollutions that are suggested:

1. Under rendering tab - Advanced, Hardware is set to 2080ti only

2. Under rendering tab - Advanced, OptiX Price Acc. i tried turn off and on

3. Changing PsyhX in Nvidia control panel to CPU only

4. Changing Instancing optimization to Memory and Speed

5. Turning off every aplication and letting only DAZ run

Maybe few more but i can't remeber now.

Problem happends both in the most simple scenes (only one genesis model in the scene) and more larger scenes. It doesn't matter.

Only sollution that kinda works, is tuning off DAZ or reseting PC. But then it falls back only to rendering with CPU after few renders and sometimes at like 91% during a render.

Batch rendering over night and animation are almost imsposisble to do this way. Sometimes it runs okay the whole night, sometimes it starts using CPU only at second render. It's random.

 

AMD 2600, 32GB DDR4, 2080ti, 1200W PSU, 500gb SSD (250gb free)

Texture not working on collada imported objecs

I've imported a collada scene to Daz Studio (textures not loading of course) and I have to apply the manually... but in some objects (like the table in the picture) to texture does not appears, no matter your use a normal material with a texture in the diffuse channel or a shader... the object gets the color but not the texture

Is ther any way to solve this? To get this objects having textures?

Baking Morphs

Hi There,

Is there any consideration given to the idea of baking morphs directly in the Daz? Character Creator has a bake morph option, which I think will be a game changer for Daz. I know you can create a character preset, or export your model, reimport to create/save your morph.

All of this would be much simpler if you could click a button to bake your changes into a new morph dial where you can continue to build on that morph.

Shape Rigger Plus is a good start. The only thing this script is missing the beginning part where it actually creates the dial of the new character then you would have to go through the steps in shape rigger plus.

Anyone have any ideas? Is what I am suggesting too complicated for Daz with all the various morphs/figures out there?

what is spectral rendering exactly?

I am trying to understand it's function... I mean when I did a sample render on a project i was working on I could see that it rendered things differently in the sence that the pixels came in a differenet way but the quality didn't seem all that much  different... but admittedly it was a sample render and kind of small
