Files missing when loading a saved scene

Hi,

I've got a new problem. I'm running DS5.9 Pro from the C; drive but I have most of my content on another drive (because I've installed Win10 on a new drive).
When I save a scene with content from the other drive (G) and then load the scene, I get a message about missing files that are supposed to be in folder /data/auto-adapted/

There's no way to fix this, so the saved scene is lost. The missing objects are only shown as boxes. Kind of frustrating.

I have set the content paths in content directory manager to content folders both on C and G and all the content is accessible ...although hard to find as the search doesn't work properly and I can't even create categories since the categories folder is gone (from the previous version of DS). Is there a way to restore the categories?

 

 

Trouble installing 4.9.1.30 Pro 64 Bit

Hi

Sorry if posted already. Too many to go through to find my solution.

I just recently upgraded from 4.8 to 4.9 on a Windows 10 Toshiba Satellite C75D-A 64 Bit machine. It kept crashing on me out of the blue. Log file says error code 10054?

I decided to try and upgrade to latest release 4.9.1.30 and get this Error message that says Error Copying File from packed archive. (x86)/cms/DAZPostGresqlCMS9.3.4.exe

Attached is a screen shot of my error message. Any solutions? Thanks!

It reads: "A valid PostgreSQL connection could not be established. Several DAZ Studio features .... "

WIndows 7.  Why am I getting this error? How do I fix it?

? Light Probe Tool

Hi,

 

what is the Light Probe Tool good for?

If I load the set into my scene, the envi sphere ever only shows the "DTHDR-RuinsB-500.hdr, independant of what is my specific setup (sun-sky or scene-only with indiviual lights).
And to see the result, I still have to start the render. So isn't any save of time to find out, what was intended to show with this tool.

If you don't own the expensive nVidia cards, you have to wait a long, long time anyhow.
 

MDL question, controlling multiple choices

For something I'm working on, ideally I'd want the user to select from one of several choices, and then pass that on to a function (brick) to pipe other information.

So, for example, If/Then/Else lets me toggle between using one input vs. another. I WANT to be able to toggle between 3+ inputs.

 

Is this doable, and, if so, what the heck is the brick named?

I have a pretty good machine now, I am using Windows 7 with an I5 processor, 32 GB Ram, and I have a EVGA GTX970 video card with 4GB of VRAM as well as an older GT620 video card with 2GB of VRAM.  So that I can track what is happening, I downloaded a nice program from Microsoft call Process Explorer that give a lot of good information about live memory usage, both on board RAM and Video RAM.  I have observed that when I load a scene and Process Explorer shows that DAZ studio is using 3GB of RAM things change a lot when I do the Ctrl R and start the render.  One reason DAZ stays so long at 0 iterations is that before it starts rendering the memory usage by DAZ Studio climbs from 3GB to 9-10 GB!  Once the render starts the GRAM used goes from about 1.5GB of VRAM to about 5GB!

What is happening here?  Why is there a more than 3 fold increase in system RAM usage when you start a render?  Why does the GRAM usage only increase once the render actually starts?

I don't know if I am in the right place. I recall (perhaps a year or so back) a product showing a collection of clothes and the like as if scattered in a bedroom or student's room, Draped and hanging items over the bed and chairs - that sort of thing. I am wondering if anyone knows what it might have been. The most likely sources are here, RuntimeDNA and Renderosity. If anyone knows what it was, I shall be interested to hear, thanks.


Sphere As A Background Goes Black

I've been trying for the last two make a sphere, and to put a pic as surface and put my scene into it. So I can pan around and take difeerent shots of my scene with a changing background. So far I made a default sphere, inverted the scale -100, reposition the sphere, put a 6000 x 3000 non spherical image, (I tried to use some spherical image that I made myself in photoshop, but i couldn't not see much of a difference) on top as surface, put my scene inside, make the sphere bigger, like -1000 scale. Then I tried to illuminate my scene more, with distant lights from the inside or the outside, but everything goes black when I am rendering. The only slider the seems to make thing better is the opacity one, even at only 90%. The problem is that as you turned opacity down, the image used as surface loose resolution. I mean, it make sense, but I was wondering if there is any way to make this work. If I don't try to put any more light i can stil render, but I would like my scene to be more illuminated. Thanks.

Adding Textures to Embroidery Clothing in Daz3d

Hi guys,

So i created an outfit using MD . It's an embroidered dress

However, since rendering isn't optimal in MD , i decided to texture and render them in DAZ3D for optimum results. 
The upper part of the outfit is made of thin bridal fabric with embroidery. So I have a displacement map created for this texture. However, i cant seem to add that embroidery "bump" in the object. 
I tried tweaking the materials displacement strength , and bump strength but i still could not get it to work. 

Could someone lend a helping hand here? 

I have an example of the actual fabric , and the fabric taken in a photograph format fit to be mapped into the pattern, and the fabric rendered in MD. They all loose their quality as they get to each stage.
Is there something i am doing wrong?

Daz and After Effects?

Yet another newbie question: Is there a workflow to use Daz figures in After Effects? It would be easy enough to export rendered animation and use them as 2d layers in AE, but I was wondering if anyone imports the 3d models into AE to take advantage of the better lighting controls. What export and import formats would be used?

So when I look in smart content I see my products but most show the following so I am confused because I installed them all in DIM.

Batch Covert M4 to Genesis 2

Awhile back as part of a larger purchase I acquired and installed Batch Covert M4 to Genesis 2.

Did not use it then, situation has come up where this would be very useful.

In trying to use it am totally messing up presets.

As a result in the preset folder I have about twenty references to files that I deleted because they did not work.

Two questions.

Can anyone who has this program suggest how to use it.

And more importantly how can I clean the Preset pane of icons of things that have been deleted.

Is there a Users' Guide somewhere for Animated Textures Script Pro?  I'm having trouble getting the hang of it.  For instance, what does the "Pad Sequence Number" control do?

Lens Thickness setting?

Search is giving me no love in the shape of answers,...

Anybody know what Lens Thickness settings does?
I'm playing with a simple scene, Xin Xin and some Dystopian city blocks, 3 point lighting on Xin Xin, and the base Iray shader on the street marker poles, with them as an emissive light source, and the environment skydome.
And I'm using a giant cube with SSS for some atmosphere.

The difference between the thickness set to 0mm and then swapped to 100mm, there's just the barest difference in the emissive light sources, and maybe in the 'atmosphere',..

So, does the Thickness setting affect the way light bounces around Inside the lens ??
Is it a setting to alter the light blooming, or even flares?


Content lost after migrating old database

Howdy,

I finally managed to migrate my old content database - from Wind7 to Win9 and DS4.9 Pro. All the folders are ok in the categories, but there's one major problem: There are no files, just empty folders.
My content is located on C and G drive (my old Win7 system drive). What should I do?

 

Converting Genesis ONE poses to Genesis 2?

Is there a product to convert Genesis 1 poses over to Genesis 2? The only commercial products I've found are for V4 to G1/G2 and G2 to G3, but nothing for G1 to G2 explicitly. I've even found a few items on ShareCG but they're for adjusting V4 to G1...

Is it possible to create your own unique - grouping of content items?

Instead of having to remember all the names of products in some instances it would be nice to have related items grouped or categorized for quick use.

Examples... Dinosuars have all manner of long-winded names, who can remember them, etc.

Medieval buildings, characters, props and scenes,  apocalyse with character, buildings, backgrounds, props, etc.

It would nice to create and maintain composite groups of all the related content items as user works with them for easy findi and use.

Weight maps & M4 shirts

When I make shirts for an M4 figure and use the transfer utitlity the shirt looks fine when the figure is in a Tpose but when I lower the arms the shirt's shoulders and upper sleeves baloon up.  I try to deflate the balooning with the weight map smooth brush but it doesn't seem to have any affect.  Is this simply a common occurrence with the M4 figure and the transfer utility?  I suppose I could try to rig the shirt myself without the utility and see what happens but I  just thought I'd ask.  I never have this problem with trousers or shoes that I make for M4 it just seems to be with the shoulders of shirts and jackets.    ...vests turn out just fine of course. cool
