LittleFox unicorn problem [SOLVED]

Anyone else get lots of "Vertex index for weight map out of range..." warnings for Littlefox unicorn ( https://www.daz3d.com/the-unicorn ) when trying to load beard, mane or tail ? it still look ok after lodaing but I get a gazzilion of these for a few minutes while loading, sounds like some incorrect weight map that does not match the mesh is being used or something.

I'd like to start this thread, basically it's going to be my wishlist for Animation tools... first on my list is Key Mate and GraphMate, which is the traditional Key Frame Editor available for D|S... (both essential for Animation, IMHO, especially if you want to do things like design walk cycles)

But I do have a question: is there, or has anyone ever spoken of a Walk Path tool for D|S like the one that Poser has?

Complex clothing autofit

I find G2 -> G3 autofit usually works, but it's really having bad time when it comes to clothings with unusual shapes.

for example, this kimono for G2F is lot different from other cloths.

I tried all options (AutoFit, Transfer Utility, having it worn on hidden G2F, etc) and all failed.

Is only remaining option is to go and change all bones / weight maps by trial and error?

Hope there's better way... but maybe that's much there is to it

Hello guys, I want update but I'm fear that it won't work once updated (I mean.. after reading all the posts in previous pages in the DAZ Releasing an Update to DAZ Studio topic)..

I want know..

How I can backup perfectly all my DAZStudio Previous installation ?
(Just DAZ Studio setup and all plugins that it come with base installation).
I have actually: 4.9.1.30

If I ask this, it is because if things goes bad or some features I liked that will be missing.. able to rollback in those case (restore previous installation that was manually backup)

Problems with long nails on Genesis 3 transferred character from Victoria 4

I had transferred my custom character based on Victoria 4 to the Genesis 3 using plug-in Genesis Generation X2 (GenX2). During the transfer I chose Source: Victoria 4, Shape: Victoria 4 (Shape), Target: Genesis 3 Female. Everything went well but when I tried to apply the long nail morphs I found there was an issue as shown in the pictures. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Any suggestions, help of advice would be appreciated.

How does one re-dock Panes?

Talk about a pane! I undocked some panes (IE Actors. wardrobe and props) b4 I discovered it wasn't a great idea. How do I get them re-docked?

DS 4.5, Mini-Mac 64 bit, running Mountain Lion.

How to use certain shaders with OBJ

Hello guys,

I'm sorry if this question is stupid but I'm very noob and after some search I have found nothing.

I got an OBJ (an Iron Throne like that in GoT) and I have troubles when trying to use shaders like Rusted Metal or Paint Flakes, the result is terrible, please see the image below.

As you can see with the same shader, the sphere is perfect instead the throne takes only the yellow color, what I'm wrong?

Some IRAY questions.

1. if I used hdri files in carrara and bryce, can those hdri files be used in Iray?

2. can the files I used in uberenvironment (which were converted from hdri files) be used?

3. I assume I load them via the image option like you do a texture--i.e., the one in the environment section?

4. How do I determine where the 7light comes from (where the shadow falls)? It seems totally random as almost any light I add has no shadow options in Iray.

5. I assume I cannot use area lights, but someone taught me how to use a plane or other object and turn it into a mesh light. Fine, but can the mesh light be in the scene (with an area light it cannot) and if I want it close to the figure how do I do that without having it physically in the scene?

6. Does a mesh light or distance light cast a shadow, or is the only shadow determined by the hdri? ANd if they DO cast a shadow is there any way to control softness, etc?

7. Though I have a ton of questions about shaders in Iray, I will limit myself to one--displacement. I have seen that it can work (whereas with REALITY, it was a pain and seldom worked as well), Are there are any guidelines about using displacement? I had to up the displacement from like 6 to 75 percent to see veins that in 3DL showed up well.

     Has anyone made a script to coinvert the free mixamo FBX files to Studio aniblocks yet?  There were ~2500 of them and going one at a time would be painfull.  Several people got them, so I was wondering.

Daz Studio crashing with LAMH free plugin..and

I just purchased AM's Foxes and Raccoon. I am new to the free LAMH plugin and am trying to work with it. The problem I am having is with Daz Studio crashing when using the LAMH version of the fox and raccoon. It happens when trying to apply a pose and also when just deleting the figure from a scene. Also trying to adjust the pose with the morphs doesn't work as only one of the figures will follow the pose. Hope I am making sense here. I tried to select both the fox figure and the LAMH fox figure to parent them but can't do it. I need a tutorial I think. At any rate don't know if this is a bug but I don't usually have studio crash like this. Thanks for any help.

Updated nVidia drivers and now iRay crawls along, almost locking up the system

/\ Points at thread title.

Okay, put simply, I updated my nVidia drivers. My rendering rig is also my gaming rig, and the system was throwing a tantrum over driver issues. So I've been steadily updating everything.

Obviously, one of the major ones is my display drivers. Until I updated those, DS was rendering fine in iRay quite happily. The iRay preview, especially with very simple scenes, was fast and responsive.

Now, having updated the drivers, switching to iRay preview in DS practically crashes the program, the rendering itself moving at a snail's pace. Even with a single, naked, unposed figure causes the renderer to slow to a treacle crawl, and I have to end the process through the task manager. Needless to say, this makes doing anything practically impossible.

Why in Hades has updating the driver done this? It's not as if the rig couldn't handle iRay before.

System specs:
Intel Core i7-3770K 3.5GHz
32GB RAM
2x nVidia GeForce GTX 980s in SLi
Windows 7 64
Daz Studio 4.9.2.7 Pro 64

There are a lot of products e.g. anatomical elements around now using geo shells. What are those geo shells, how do they work, why are they giving black artefacts in renders and how to avoid this? Thank you.

Need some help importing animations from blender

Decided to give animation a spin and after giving up with Daz's system with autokeyframes and weird IK behaviour, I decided to give blender a try to animate. I used several methods to try and bring the rig properly.

First was using Khalibloo's addon for blender here -> https://bitbucket.org/Khalibloo/khalibloo-panel and trying to animate and bring the bvh back in. That obviously did not turn out well, with the bones being grossly incorrect.

Next was the normal .dae import and subsequent export of a bvh animation. when I exported, I ended up with the bones being renamed. Is this normal? Why is that?

Third, I tried just exporting a .bvh, which came out funky with the whole model just floating in mid-air for some reason

Fourth was via magicman's plugin https://3dnewimage.com/genesis-3-tool-for-blender/

I've tried all attempts with both G2F and G3F and honestly am kinda confused on what is going on. Would appreciate some advice.

it feels like as soon as I leave the Daz environment/software, getting back in seems impossible. 


Displacement in 3DL

I saw a product in the story where the vendor said that the texture used displacement maps that would work in lray and one other type of renderer, but NOT in 3dl. I still use mostly M4, but I am moving on to genesis figures. I tend to render mostly in 3dl, but I see displacement maps working, even if I use genesis 1 with M4 UV maps. My question is this, does 3DL no longer support displacement or was that most likely just something specific to that product?

The ubersurface still has displacement and the default shader does too I thought.

I rendered an m4 figure in lray and I had to beef up the displacement a lot but it worked. In fact, the materials I use for 3dl (tweaked a lot already) looked ok as is in LRay thought the specularity was not what I would have wanted.

Please overhaul the Pupeteer save and load process

Pupeteer is a great tool in DS, it allows for quick posing and basically saves out all those expressions and custom morphs you used on your poses and keeps those with the figure for easy reloading.

But there is one thing I have never liked very much, that it bloats up the saved files because it writes EVERY morph value on the figure to the file even if those values are at their default. This may not be such a big deal when you have a rather small runtime with just the basic figure morphs, but once youre at a certain amount of morphs, this slows everything down.

For example, I am sitting at roughly 5000-6000 morphs on my g3f right now from a ton of my own custom morphs, morph creation packages I bought and also gotten from sharecg. And pupeteer goes through each of those every time I load one of those dots up, and when I update them and it then saves this to the file aswell, even all those thousands of unchanged zero value morphs. EVERY TIME :)

I have attached a gif explaining what a difference this makes when you could skip going through all those unnecessary morphs, by simply deleting the morph information on a sample pupeteer file, and then using that for changing poses. What I am proposing to the developers is to overhaul the save process a bit so the user gets a few checkboxes which can toggle saving shaping morphs under the actor tab, pose controls and custom morphs.

In the save process, the application then checks each morph if the value that is about to be written to the file is at its default value or not, and if its at its default value, simply skip writing it to the file, because it only creates bloat and even generates problems when you would like to use pupeteer dots to just pose a figure because it then messes with your figure shape unless you have locked all your shaping values on your figure.

I believe it would be great if you gave a bit more control to the user and make things a bit more efficient by adding these tweaks.

Lighing and/or Atmosphere Threads?

Are there threads dedicated to Lighting only in IRAY and another for Lighting in 3Delight?   I've not been able to find anything.

Is Daz Studio capable of creating Atmosphere itself or can that only be accomplished by purchasing content.

Adding Animated Parts to Hard Surface Prop

Hi there guys, I'm looking at developing some hard surface model props for Daz3D and wanted to know the best way to handle adding animated parts to a hard surface prop. So for example I'm looking at developing a spacecraft, but want to include working landing gear, opening cockpit canopy and variable vector wings. Am I going to have to go the route of developing bones for this? I've noted that morphing has been mentioned, but don't feel that is suitable for this, and bones would be unnecesarily complicated for what is required. Essentially I want to be able to rotate around an appropriately placed pivot point to get the results I want. Having a workable hierachy in there wouldn't hurt either. Are these functions available within Daz3D?

How to Manually Edit a DSF File

It was suggested in the FaceGen forum that the reason that I couldn't get my creations from G3 to G8 was perhaps due to auto_follow not being enabled in the .dsf that FaceGen created and then suggested the following:

"Some previous versions didn't have 'auto_follow' turned on for G3 (in the .DSF file). You can manually edit the .DSF file; search for the text 'auto_follow'."

So my question is how do I manually edit the .dsf file? I can't find anything that references this.
