Rotation Cube appears to be disabled although still visible

I have been using Daz3D casually for about a year. and am enjoying just learning and playing. I have no business aspirations. I am a retired software engineer. I would guess I have at least 200 hours of experience.

I have learned how to insert figures into scenes, and ther basics of clothing, props, posing, morphs, LIE, simple lighting, rendering, surfaces, etc.

I went away for last weekend and turned off my PC for several days. I turned it back on and loaded Teen Josie 8 and the Denim Jumper outfit, using smart content only. She stands there in the standard pose but I cannot move her with the cube, as I have always been able to do. I can move mer with the move tool, I can apply poses, I can zoom her in and out, but I cannot move the default camera with the Cube and view her from all directions like I have always been able to do up to now. I can only see her from the front, and the default camera is at floor level. The cube is still visible, it just does nothing.

Have I disabled something without realizing it?  Is there a setting that disables the cube but leaves it visible?

I am up to date with install manager, I am on Daz 4.10.0.123

Is there an accurate method of putting a Genesis 8 figure into a T-pose for Unity?

Hi,

I'm using Daz Studio Genesis 8 characters for a Unity project in order to create immersive scenes that the participant can interact with.  I've got a fairly decent workflow going to work with the characters, using special shaders for double-sided materials and hair, and everything's looking fantastic!

However, I'm having issues when it comes to animating the characters, as Unity Mecanim isn't putting the characters into an exact T-pose when I use the humanoid rig.  Instead, it looks like the legs a spread apart a little, and the toes point outwards.  This has a knock-on effect when it comes to using animations from the Unity asset store, as the rotations of these joints are effectively offset.  I can correct the pose manually to make it look better, but it's still not quite right.

So my question is, is there anywhere that I can get a pose preset that sets the character to Unity's required T-pose? If not, then is there any information available as to how much I need to rotate each joint to get it to this correct pose when I'm configuring the avatar within Unity?

how to add translation to existing G8 rigging?

The shoulders only have rotation dials, but no translation. Is there an easy way to enable that somehow? I tried bone editor but see no obvious way. I just want to move the shoulder joint a bit on the X-axis, to get a more realistic result in my pose.

dForce information beyond "Start Here"?

So I read the dForce - Start Here thread, and that explains a lot of the parameters in the surface and simulation settings. But there seems to be a gap from that to practical explanations / examples of how to use them. It's one thing when the product was already designed with dForce in mind. But I'm struggling to add dForce modifiers to older G3 products. Even something as simple as explaining what the difference is between surface presets like "Skirt Style 01" .. "Skirt Style 02" .. etc. would help. Those names are awful!

Are there some good tutorials on using dForce with clothing that maybe wasn't designed with dForce in mind?

Daz Studio crashes on login, but works offline

So I just bought a new Asus E403N laptop.  I updated my Windows 10 Home, and updated the bios and all drivers.   I decided to try out Daz Studio and have run into a problem.   When I login to Daz3D in Daz Studio, Daz Studio crashes.   Windows just tells me it crashed and it will seek more information

As log as I am in work offline mode, I can load objects, render scenes, etc with no problem.  But if I log in at startup, or if I log in at the top of the screen at any point, Daz .   

Creating new iRay shaders?

Back before I took a break from rendering, I was starting to learn programming of Renderman based shaders. In particular, I had an idea about adapting Pixar's hair shader to our transmapped hair products. Since iRay is the engine of choice now, I was wondering if there are resources for creating new custom shaders for this engine?

Removing unused textures - DS

Hi, does anyone know how to remove a list of unused textures in DS - I have a scene where I had a number of different objects which I've now deleted, but the textures are still showing up in the list from the Diffuse Color drop down under Surfaces -it means that it's taking ages to optimize images when trying to render. I though I'd seen this questions asked somewhere before in the forums but can't find anything.

Any help would be appreciated:)

dForce, how to stop character from moving back to zero?

Whe I use dForce with "Start Bones From Memorized Pose", it ignores the position and moves my character to zero. This will make the dForce item go below the surface I want it to collide with and nothing works. Is there a way to make dForce use the memorized position instead of zero?

 


Problem with "Gym Wear Outfit for Genesis 8 Male(s)"

Hi,

I just purchased the "Gym Wear Outfit for Genesis 8 Male(s)".
As I tried to load it on the G8 Base Male, autofit asked for the character it was designed for. (?) Seems to be a mistake in the product? Or did I do something wrong?

Caveat: I've spent MANY years out of DAZ Studio. My last major version was 3.1; so what I think of as "new" is probably standard stuff for a lot of you here.

I have to admit as a long time fan of the 3Delight rendering engine (I used to vehemently defend it against the Poser fanatics), I was skeptical of iRay. I felt like I was giving up a lot of the control I had over lights and surfaces and relying on the engine to get things right. While I'm still struggling with some of the nuances (my indoor scenes seem to be too dark while outdoor scenes all look like they're shot at high noon in the desert), the wealth of shader options and the fact that my in-scene light bulbs case light, as well as the excellent skin controls have won me over to using iRay exclusively now.

I will using the studying I had done about Renderman based engines like 3Delight, but I am definitely happy with the images I'm getting out of the "new" engine.

Hello everyone. I'm Allen and I'd like to ask a question regarding how to change/transfer figure models. I recently watched a few tutorials but I didn't get the desired result. I'm going to explain you my idea straight forward so that you can get the accurate picture:

So, my idea is to transfer Ysabeau 6 (G2F figure) into a G3F figure. Things I tried:

I tried using GenX to export her head and body morphs to later on import them on a G3F, but for some reason I couldn't find them, she just came with a general shape, and my skills aren't good enough so I didn't know what to do next. I also tried Legacy UVs for G3F so as to transfer her skin (MATs) but, once again, the result was not as I expected it to be, as part of the textures around her lips were dislocated...
I played around using different settings on both programs, I got a close result, but still, I'm not satissfied and that's why I'm asking for help. Probably it's simple, it's just that I don't have enough knowledge about modeling and stuffs.

Your help will be highly appreciated.

geocraft stopped working and I don't know why. I got it fixed by performing a complete reinstall of DS and everything that comes with it. Reinstalling the DS app just didn't help. I needed to delete the complete User/Roaming folder. So, yeah it works again, but I'd like to know, what caused it and if anybody had similar problems and how to avoid future errors. thanks :-)

Serial Numbers for DAZ Decimator and aniMate 2

First-time DS user here...

When I launch DS 4, I'm prompted for serial numbers for DAZ Decimator and aniMate 2. I can't find the serial numbers on the "My Serial Numbers" page, nor in the email I received when I downloaded DS/Bryce/Hex (during the promotion a few years ago when they were free). I tried using my DS serial number to no avail.

Are these products/plugins that I would need to purchase before using them? I do have a DAZ Decimator install file that I downloded years ago with DS 4.5, but if I installed it now the serial number problem would remain.

Are these programs that I really need at this stage (learning DS)? I understand that Decimator is for reducing poly counts, but I don't know what aniMate is.

the Blender exporter now exports instances

Instances in DAZ Studio are duplicated objects that take no extra memory so they're great for large environments such as forests and cities or large interiors. The 1.3 beta now exports them into actual instances in Blender.

Thomas is working very actively on the exporter so anyone can help to test and improve it.

Render time optimisation Iray engine

Hi,

I have many time problems since few days.

Render time is longer.  My driver is update (nvidia GTX 970 4GO) windows 7 64 bits is updated too.

 

My latest render  was at 50% after 15h... :( I use Dazstudio to create content but i use it for illustration (cover books, poster...) so i need big render scale? It was the first time i have this problem  with all renders.

Have you got a solution to optimise time rendering ?

Excessively long saved figure and scene loading, saving and clearing time ...SOLVED!!!

My saved scenes were taking forever to load and save.  We're talking about 20 min, 30 min ...longer.  It was really pissing me off.  No one had any answers for me.  Then this guy on Deviantart made this suggestion, and it worked!

1.  Load the scene.

2.  Save it as a scene subset.

3.  Close.

4.  Open the subset.  Save it as a scene.

 

Oh my God, what a difference!  There must be something fragmented that can happen with scenes you work wit a lot, and this totally fixes it!  Scenes that were taking 1/2 hour to load now load in less than a minute!  If you're having this issue, try it!  Makes things a whole lot easier and a whole lot less frustrating.

Anyone want to help Bring Radeon ProRender To Daz Studio

So I'm putting together a team of Developers to help make a Radeon ProRender Plugin to Daz. Only 1 asset showing up in Products or Categories

I have moved DAZ Studio to a new machine, placed content on external drive, etc. Gone through the whole export userdata, import, reset db, re-import megadata... the works. 90% of my old content and many custom categories now work just fine. All the products in my library are present and functional. But I have encountered a rather peculiar problem: Certain products show only the first asset in the Products or Categories view. For example: Canine Journey poses will show one out of 25. The rest are simply not there. They are installed and working in their file location. Selecting all 25 there and trying to categorize them yields no result other than the poses now being recognized as "categorized"(yellow tick in dialogue box), but as soon as I navigate to the category, there is nothing but the solitary asset there was before. Trying to create a new category from the menu does the same.

I can create new categories from other products and populate them with assets just fine. I have reinstalled these products, checked whether their metadata is present in Support folder... and, of course, they work just fine on my old machine.

Any ideas?

How to Fit a Hat Over Hair?

I was just wondering how do you effectively fit a hat over hair? I haven't wanted to do this until now, but I have no idea how to do it without hair poking out of the hat. I am trying to fit the santa hat over the hair of my Genesis 3 figure. I see there is a hat helper for G2, but nothing for G3.
