I've sculpted some effects with the weight mapped push that I would like to apply to other figures.

Is there a way to save it out as a morph, that I can dial up on another figure?

Iray - Which settings are causing transparent eyes?

 I noticed  that some Genesis 8 female Iray skins render with transparent eyes.

Can someone help me to learn which settings to adjust to fix this myself?

I created a simple test scene with Genesis 8 female and a ringlight created from a torus.

With that basic setup everything renders fine.

 

Result with Genesis 8 female:

 

 

Unfortunately when I apply the skin of some custom characters they eyes collect fireflies and then start to become transparent.

Keep everything in the scene the same and apply different Iray Skin materials to G8F to find out which characters render with transparent eyes and which not.

I now tested several characters of the same artists and they all render with transparent eyes.

 

Characters from other artists render properly with the same scene.

I am at this point interested in actually learning how to fix this issue myself by adjusting the proper material settings.

 

1) Can someone tell me which settings need to be adjusted to be able to render those characters without transparent eyes?

Hello, fellow DAZ users! This week, something strange happened to my DAZ 4.9 (64 bit) which I've been using on Windows 10 for quite a while now; my smart content and Content Management Service suddenly stopped working! ("A valid PostgreSQL CMS connection could not be established...") I followed the directions from some other forum posts, but none worked. I even uninstalled the Content Managment Service and DAZ and reinstalled DAZ3D. I reinstalled PostgreSQL CMS and the Valentina conversion, messed with the CMS port, temporalily disabled my anti-virus/firewall, and reset the database and reimported the metadata. None of them worked! The strange thing is whenever I reinstall DAZ3D, the Content Management Service doesn't install! I checked out C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D, and the "Content Management Service" folder is not there!!!!!

I don't get it!! It's really fustrating! angryAny ideas? Was it a mistake to uninstall CMS? Had anyone else had this problem?

Daz Animation to 3Delight RIB file(s)

I am looking for some way (either built into DAZ Studio or scripted) to output a DAZ animation into a RIB file or a sequence of RIB files.

My current workaround uses a highly modified MCasual's https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts5/mcjribrender script to create my animated sequences. I have "watch folders" where a batch file looks for RIB files and automatically processes them via 3Delight's standalone. I run these watch folder batch scripts on mutliple machines on my network. It works relatively well but it still requires some manual work.

The tough thing about the above workaround is that I cannot cancel the script once it has run and for long animations it takes quite a bit of time. I'd rather output just one RIB file with all of the frames contained within (which seems broken in vanilla 4.10 3delight render settings). Even if it needs to be multiple RIB files, I can live with that.

I wonder how everyone else does animated renders. Any tips appreciated!

Genx and Toon Generations

I just bought genx2 to give the toon generations morphs to genesis 2 figures to use in Carrara. The problem is, I can't figure it out. It says that it transfers, and the gen 3 morph comes over, but I can't seem to get the toon generations morph to do anything. It's there, and I can slide the slider, but it has zero effect. Nothing. I've been scouring the internet on tutorials, and there are some that have done other toon morphs, but I can't seem to find one on this particular morph.

Is there something I'm missing?


Advanced Iray Node Properties - "Iray Handle" & Light Path Expressions

Update/Edt:

In the content library you can find a script to Create Advanced Iray Node Properties.

DAZ Studio Formats > My DAZ 3D Library > Scripts > Utilities > Create Advanced Iray Node Properties

While the use of "Iray Matte" is explained on the forum I was not able to find information about the "Iray Handle" parameter.

I put together an example how you can use the Iray Handle parameter in combination with the Iray Light Path Expressions:

Iray Handle

When using the script to 

Create Advanced Iray Node Properties

there is also an entry created called "Iray Handle"

Observations:

It seems you can enter a name.

In the example I entered "ground plane".

A handle may be something like an "object id" that then can be used to call that object in some other functions.

​But I was not able to find any information how it is used in the Iray integration for DAZ Studio.

1) How is this "Iray Handle" used in DAZ Studio?

2) Why do users have to run a script to show the parameters "Enable Iray Matte" and "Iray Handle"?

Can users break any functionality if they experiment with those settings without knowing what exactly to do?

Why are those settings not shown by default?

 

 

 

Sakura 8 Eye Sockets Showing

Has anyone experienced the eye sockets showing through morphing the eyes and then using the Mouth smile pose at 100% and the Z SP Sweet Smile at 100%?

The white parts is the eye sockets.

How do I edit a mesh for a character?

There are a few characters in Daz but nothing that I am really satisfied with. The bodies look too fake and certainly not realistic in my view as far as proportions go. Things like lower back arch is far too deep, neck is sometimes too long, legs are often too long and hands are often too big in proportion to the body.

I want to import the mesh to a 3D app and adjust them to be more realistic. The problem is that I can't even find the meshes to edit even if I knew what app to use to make the modifications I want.

 

Can someone point me in the right direction. I now have Hexagon if that helps and I have Maya as well. If one of those will allow me to edit teh meshes, A clue as to where to find the relevant character meshes would be great along with the file extension they use for PC. I also have a few poser meshes I'd like to edit as well if anyone can tell me the place and file extension for them as well.

I was wondering if it is possible to set up my own custom smart content?  I am seeing how to make a product based on a file or add a file to that product.  What else would I need to know about making my smart content work the way I want. Can an item be in more than one product? 

A couple of tips and tricks going from Daz Studio to Motionbuilder

Hey everyone!, I wanted to share a couple of neat tricks I discovered when going from Daz Studio to Motionbuilder in a recent personal project.

As I use motion capture, both for body and for facial, I use these two packages quite a bit.  I export fbx from Daz Studio to Mobu, bring in the mocap for that project, then use Marmoset toolbag for rendering.

As anyone who uses fbx knows, many times what you see in Daz Studio, due to mesh smoothing, doesn't look the same once you export, resulting in meshes, especially for clothing, that break or don't work well (especially when using clothing designed for a different genesis character)  so most of the time, I make sure that things work right before I export, then take a look and adjust or use new clothing when needed before I start working on the animation itself.

This time, I was lazy, I exported my gen8 female character with a set of clothing for gen3, got it into mobu, applied all my facial and body mocap, then decided that it didn't work well.. Carp!.. I really don't want to go through all of the process of re-importing a character, characterizing and applying the facial and body mocap and especially having to redo all the keyframed animation I added with the control rig, etc.  Hmm.. I could just bring it in and retarget, but that doesn't do facial.. carp.

As it turns out, you can just export the new character with the clothing or whatever changes you want to do and MERGE the file directly on top of your existing genesis (will only work if they are the same version).. making sure you untick in mobu the "animation" take and untick the "solo and mute" in layers on import.. and it will preserve all the hard work you've done previously.. You will just have to delete whatever shapes of the clothing or props or whatever you don't need anymore.  You don't have to characterize or setup anything in mobu on the new character.. just import over it.

It even works if the character is of a different size and shape (although I wouldn't recommend it, as then the animation might not look right), but if you are just wanting to change clothing or hair.. it works like a champ.  This was a big timesaver for me and was pleasantly surprised.

The other is not so much a tip but an observation. When you are exporting from Daz Studio a character with animation already applied via fbx to another program., and you tick the "morphs" box, the mesh is broken in really weird and amusing ways.  (besides it takes forever).  However, if you untick the morphs, it will still export the animation, including any facial animation that you've done, and the mesh will not be broken.. but it will preserve everything you've done.  I tested this in mobu, but would like to see if anyone sees similar results in other programs.

Dformer and morphs

Ok, I know how to use dformer to create, say, an adams apple. I know that I can save the dform as a preset so I can add that to any similar figure. I also know that once added, I spawn a morph and then save that figure with that morph.

But is there a way to save the morph so that it will remain part of m8 (or M7)? Meaning, Is there a way to make that spawned morph a permanent morph that is always there and I just have to dial it in?

I don't know, I have no idea of how to create or buy a kid with casual clothes 5 years old.

What should I do in order to get it?. May I model from a base model? Which base model should I have for it?.

Vary Transparency -- Is that Possible?

Is it possible to vary the transparency of characters, or parts of characters, or hair, or clothing, before doing an iRay render? I've looked in Surfaces, and I can't figure out how to do that.

FBX Export clothing

Hello! I want to export only the cloth of a character, but while it keeps the morphs of the character intact.

I tried the following:

1) In the FBX exporter selected "Selected" and only had the Clothing Selected, although the figure didn't appear as selected it was still exported when I clicked export.

2) I hid the entire figure and checked "No hidden". Once again, although the figure wasn't selected for export it did get exported when I clicked the Export button.

In both cases I disabled "Merge clothing with figure skeleton".

I know I can export the clothing alone, however in that case it won't keep the morphs of the character.

Trying to make and 3d print a model and I am using the SuperJeans that are apart of the Mega wardrobe and everytime i exsport it it shows all three lengths of the super jeans option and i can see the lengthe when high lighting picture anyone know how to get rid of those extra layers so it doesnt exsport into the .obj file or have any tips on how to hide them so it doesnt show?
